Job Description

Join one of the top VR studios in the world, DLVR, as a Sound Designer and help shape the future of VR gaming. You will craft immersive soundscapes that enhance player experience in virtual reality. This role involves creating, implementing, and polishing audio across all VR titles, collaborating with designers, artists, and engineers. You will also engage with the player community through Discord, gathering feedback to iterate quickly. This is an opportunity to work on cutting-edge projects where immersive audio is crucial to the user experience.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with a small, high-performance team to create compelling audio experiences across all DLVR games.
  • Design and produce high-quality sound effects (SFX) for gameplay, UI, environments, and player interactions.
  • Implement and iterate audio in Unity (mixing, routing, real-time parameters, spatialization, snapshots, ducking, etc.).
  • Build and maintain audio systems and workflows that support fast iteration and consistent quality.
  • Optimize audio performance for VR (CPU, memory, streaming, voice counts) while maintaining clarity and impact.
  • Test and troubleshoot audio behavior in VR headsets to ensure sound supports comfort, readability, and immersion.
  • Work closely with designers and artists to ensure audio supports gameplay clarity and enhances “feel”.
  • Maintain audio documentation, naming conventions, versioning, and asset organization.
  • Stay up-to-date on VR audio trends and tools (spatial audio, haptics integration, accessibility, loudness best practices).

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in sound design for games, interactive media, or VR/AR experiences.
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating gameplay-driven sound design (moment-to-moment, feedback, UI, environments).
  • Experience implementing audio in Unity (with middleware such as Meta XR Audio SDK, Wwise/FMOD or Unity’s native audio tools).
  • Knowledge of VR audio best practices, including spatial audio and clarity in dense scenes.
  • Proficiency with DAWs and audio tools (e.g., Reaper, Pro Tools, Ableton, Audition) and common plugins.
  • Understanding of audio editing, mixing, basic mastering, and asset optimization (formats, compression, looping).
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills; able to take feedback and iterate quickly.
  • Comfortable working independently while coordinating closely with a small team.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with multiplayer games and audio readability in competitive environments.
  • Experience building procedural/parameter-driven audio systems.
  • Familiarity with accessibility considerations (dynamic range options, subtitles for key audio cues, mix presets).
