Job Description

The Power BI Reporting & SQL Analyst is responsible for developing, maintaining, and optimizing Power BI reports and dashboards that enable data-driven decision-making across the organization. This role partners with business stakeholders to translate reporting requirements into scalable, reliable solutions, performs ad hoc SQL queries to deliver timely insights, and ensures all Power BI deliverables align with organizational brand standards and reporting governance.

Responsibilities

Power BI Report Development & Management

• Design and develop Power BI dashboards, scorecards, and paginated/interactive reports aligned to business needs.
• Maintain and enhance existing reports by implementing improvements, adding new measures, and optimizing visuals.
• Implement best practices for data modeling (star schema where applicable), report performance, and usability.
• Manage report lifecycle: requirements → development → validation → deployment → ongoing support.
• Configure and manage Power BI workspaces, permissions, apps, and deployment practices (as applicable).

SQL Querying & Data Retrieval

• Write and optimize SQL queries (joins, CTEs, window functions, aggregations) to source and prepare report-ready datasets.
• Perform ad hoc queries to respond to data requests from operational teams, leadership, and analysts.
• Validate data accuracy by reconciling results across source systems, extracts, and Power BI datasets.

Data Quality, Governance & Documentation

• Ensure reporting logic is traceable and documented (KPIs, measure definitions, business rules).
• Create and maintain data dictionaries, report specifications, and user guides.
• Support data quality checks and partner with data owners to resolve anomalies.

Brand Standards & Reporting Consistency

• Align all Power BI reports to brand standards (fonts, colors, layout conventions, logo usage, terminology).
• Enforce report templates and design patterns to ensure consistency across dashboards.
• Improve report clarity through thoughtful design and accessibility considerations.

Stakeholder Collaboration & Support

• Gather requirements and clarify metrics with stakeholders; recommend solutions and improvements.
• Provide report training and enablement for end users (how to use filters, drill throughs, subscriptions).
• Troubleshoot report issues and provide support during upgrades or changes to underlying data sources.

Requirements

• 2+ years developing Power BI reports/dashboards in a business environment (adjust as needed).
• Strong SQL proficiency with proven experience writing complex queries.
• Experience with Power BI Desktop and Power BI Service (publishing, refresh, workspace management).
• Experience creating measures with DAX and working with data models.
• Ability to translate business questions into clear, actionable reporting solutions.
• Strong attention to detail, data validation discipline, and documentation habits.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with data warehouses/lakes and ELT/ETL tools (e.g., SSMS, Azure, Snowflake).
• Exposure to performance optimization (model size reduction, incremental refresh).
• Understanding of data governance principles, including metric definition standardization.
• Fleet experience is a plus.
