Job Description

This role is a part-time contract position, with opportunity for renewal at the end of the contract period (8 months). Location: Full Remote. As Level Designer, you’ll collaborate with game designers, program developers, and stakeholders in defining the environmental design of our game.

Responsibilities

  • Set and evolve the level design vision, collaborating with designers and stakeholders to help define the mechanical requirements for the game.
  • Lead both live map updates and major reworks as-needed during the design and prototyping phases of development.
  • Drive innovation on new maps, exploring new ideas while protecting core gameplay mechanics.
  • Coordinate each stage of the level design process, from early concept through final release, balancing player value, development cost, and long-term flexibility.
  • Anticipate player needs, understanding how different audiences engage with 3rd person shooter and roguelike games.
  • Implement data and feedback to evolve maps in ways that resonate with the community and fellow designers.

Requirements

  • 3-5+ years of experience with game development in a level design role.
  • Deep understanding of core level design concepts for 3rd person shooter games such as engagement distances, cover, verticality, and the framing of player objectives.
  • Previous experience with at least 1 shipped game title that used your level design work.
  • Experience with Unreal Engine 5.
  • Experience communicating and expressing complex and nuanced designs in simple ways.

Extras

  • Game design or related degree(s) & certifications.
  • Experience with indie game development.
  • Experience or interest in 3rd person shooter and roguelike design.

Compensation and Benefits

Pay: $2,900.00 - $3,750.00 per month
