Senior Front-end Developer
Contract: Freelance, fully remote

Commitment: 4 days per week (32 hours)

Compensation: $70,000 - $90,000 per year

Looking for a fully remote, but ongoing contract where you can leverage your Front-end development skills? Expatfile is seeking an eager senior front-end developer to become an integral part of our team! We build tax software for American expats, simplifying a complex process. Our small, product-driven team works across multiple Next.js applications dealing with onboarding, document extraction, and payments. We prioritize security and quality, handling sensitive financial data.

Requirements

Core Stack

• TypeScript: advanced proficiency, including generics and utility types.
• React 18/19: deep understanding of the rendering model, hooks, and concurrent features.
• Next.js (App Router): fluent with React Server Components and server actions.
• Next.js (Pages Router): fluent with getStaticProps/getServerSideProps.

Styling

• SCSS/CSS Modules: production experience writing scalable SCSS, understanding CSS specificity and responsive design.

Data Layer

• GraphQL: strong understanding of schema comprehension and client cache management.

Design & Accessibility

• Figma-to-code: able to implement designs with pixel-perfect fidelity.
• Storybook: experience building and maintaining component stories.
• WCAG 2.1 AA: practical understanding of accessibility in forms and navigation.

Testing

• Jest or Bun: unit and integration testing of components.
• React Testing Library: testing behavior rather than implementation.
• MSW: mocking API responses in tests.

Ideal Experience

• 7+ years of professional front-end experience.
• Ability to provide constructive code review feedback and mentor junior developers.
• Comfortable making pragmatic tradeoffs.
• Availability during CET work hours.
