Job Description

UC San Diego’s Temporary Employment Services department is pleased to announce a new opportunity for a Web Applications Developer. This position will support the development and maintenance of web-based platforms, with a focus on content management systems, user experience, and accessibility. The role will work closely with stakeholders to gather requirements, implement updates, and ensure websites are functional, user-friendly, and aligned with organizational needs. This position offers a hybrid work arrangement, with a combination of on-site and remote work.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Content Management System (CMS) Support
  • Configure and maintain CMS platforms, with a focus on Drupal
  • Manage users, roles, and permissions
  • Install and update modules and themes
  • Web Development & Design
  • Modify Drupal themes using Twig templates and CSS
  • Develop and update responsive website layouts
  • Apply responsive design principles to new and existing sites
  • Accessibility & Optimization
  • Ensure websites meet web accessibility standards
  • Optimize media assets (e.g., images) for web performance
  • Support basic SEO practices and cross-browser compatibility
  • Stakeholder Collaboration
  • Meet with stakeholders to gather requirements and translate needs into technical solutions
  • Communicate technical concepts clearly to non-technical users
  • Training & Support
  • Provide guidance and training on CMS platforms such as Drupal and Google Sites
  • Troubleshoot issues related to web platforms and event management tools (e.g., Eventbrite)
  • Content & Media Management
  • Upload and manage video content on platforms such as YouTube and Vimeo
  • Support integration of multimedia content into websites

Additional Position Details:

  • Anticipated duration: 5 - 6 months
  • Compensation: $31.51 / hour, including paid holidays and vacation/sick leave. Full-medical insurance also available.
  • Location: Hybrid / remote work arrangement. 2 days on-site per week required. On-site work will be at UC San Diego’s main campus in La Jolla.
  • Work schedule: Mon – Fri, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
  • Strong understanding of responsive design.
  • Experience working with Bootstrap or similar front-end frameworks.
  • Experience with content management systems (Drupal preferred), including customization of themes, templates, and modules.
  • Understanding of web accessibility standards.
  • Familiarity with media optimization techniques.
  • Basic knowledge of web security best practices and cross-browser compatibility.
  • Familiarity with design tools such as Figma or Adobe Creative Suite (preferred).
  • Experience with Google Analytics and Google Search Console.
  • Strong understanding of search engine optimization (SEO).
  • Familiarity with Apache HTTP Server.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to convey technical information to diverse audiences.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $65,800 - $115,000 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $31.51 - $55.08

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
