Job Description

We are seeking a contract / part-time interior designer to support two active projects:

• A lake house renovation located approximately one hour from Chapel Hill
• A new construction office building with an organic modern aesthetic

This is a hands-on, fast-paced role working alongside an engaged owner and active contractor. We are looking for someone who can step in quickly and help drive practical, efficient design decisions.

Requirements

• Minimum 3+ years of interior design experience
• Strong residential experience required
• Commercial experience preferred (office/workspace design)
• Strong eye for materials, finishes, and cohesive design
• Ability to make decisions efficiently without over-designing
• Comfortable collaborating directly with contractors
• Willingness to visit stores/showrooms and source materials locally
• Organized and responsive communicator
• Experience with design software (e.g., AutoCAD, SketchUp, Revit, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar) is ideal

Scope of Work

You will act as a design partner to move projects forward, including:

• Interior finish selections (flooring, tile, paint, fixtures, hardware)
• Lighting and plumbing fixture sourcing
• Furniture selection and layout input (select areas)
• Coordination with contractor to ensure selections are practical and buildable
• Creating simple mood boards, visuals, or selection packages
• Visiting local showrooms and suppliers to source materials
• Providing quick-turn feedback on design questions

This role is focused on real-time decision-making and execution, not just conceptual design.

Design Aesthetic

Organic modern with a clean, elevated look that balances warmth, simplicity, and functionality.

Time Commitment

Start: ASAP

Estimated Hours: 2–4 hours per day (flexible, but must be responsive)

Duration: Project-based, likely several months

We are on an active construction timeline, so responsiveness and quick turnaround are critical.

• Based near Chapel Hill
• Combination of remote work and in-person shopping/visits
• Occasional travel to lake property (~1 hour away)
