Job Description

Brilliant Event Lighting is seeking an on-call Event Lighting & AV Technician located in Oceanside, CA, for events across Southern California. This position is designed for working AV professionals looking for extra weekend events at luxury venues.

As a technician, you will be involved in setting up and managing lighting and AV equipment for high-class events, focusing on luxury weddings, corporate AV, and other upscale gatherings. You will have the flexibility to choose the events you wish to work on, making this ideal as a side gig to complement your existing AV role.

Requirements

Responsibilities:

• Load-in/load-out at various venues across Southern California.
• Build and strike truss structures, hang and focus fixtures.
• Run DMX data, Edison and Bates power.
• Install draping, staging, LED walls, and intelligent lighting.
• Program and operate during live shows (for qualified techs).
• Maintain a professional appearance at 5-star venues.

Required Qualifications:

• 1+ year of hands-on experience in event lighting, AV, theatrical, or live production.
• Working knowledge of DMX and power distribution.
• Comfortable working at heights (ladders, scissor lifts, Genie boom lifts).
• Able to lift 50+ lbs and work full event-day shifts.
• Familiarity with truss, spansets, shackles, and motor rigging.
• Reliable transportation and valid driver’s license.
• Available some weekends to choose events that fit your schedule.

Strongly Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience working at Encore or another AV production company.
• Active freelance AV or lighting technician.
• Console programming experience (ChamSys, MA, grandMA, Hog, ETC).
• ETCP rigging certification or IATSE Local 122 card.
• Forklift, scissor lift, or boom lift certification.
• Experience with LED wall processors (NovaStar, Brompton).
• Experience with lighting equipment brands like Chauvet, Martin, Elation, ETC, ADJ, and Global Truss.

Additional Information

Compensation: $25.00–$32.50/hr DOE + travel pay on out-of-area gigs.
