Job Description

This is a remote position for the role of Senior Backend Engineer (Python & FastAPI). The position is offered to candidates with 6+ years of experience, requiring immediate joiners. The working hours are from 5:30 PM to 2:30 AM IST.

We are seeking a Senior Backend Engineer with strong expertise in Python and FastAPI to design and scale a high-performance document-processing backend. The system will handle large, complex PDFs and support AI-driven classification workflows.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop backend services to reliably process large PDF documents (200+ pages).
• Implement AI-driven document classification using taxonomy-based models with confidence scoring.
• Build and maintain document taxonomies for classification, grouping, and validation logic.
• Enable multi-page document assembly using taxonomy rules and page-level signals.
• Develop robust exception handling mechanisms (fallback flows, “needs review” pipelines).
• Implement audit trails and data lineage, including taxonomy versioning and classification rationale.
• Optimize system performance to ensure scalability and cost-efficient AI inference.
• Support loan processing workflows by classifying and validating borrower documents (KYC, income proofs, bank statements, agreements, etc.).

Requirements

• 4+ years of hands-on experience in Python development.
• Strong expertise in FastAPI for backend services.
• Experience with PDF processing libraries such as PyPDF2, pdf2image, or similar.
• Hands-on experience integrating LLM APIs (preferably GPT-4 Vision or similar).
• Experience working with Google Cloud Platform (GCP), including Cloud Storage, Firestore, and Cloud Tasks.
• Strong understanding of:
• Asynchronous job processing (queues, workers, retry logic).
• Error handling and fault tolerance.
• Data lineage and audit systems.
• Experience in:
• Document taxonomies / classification schemas.
• OCR or document processing systems.
• AI-driven workflows and structured labeling systems.

Preferred Qualifications

• Background in financial services or compliance-driven environments.
• Experience with:
• Taxonomy versioning.
• Confidence thresholds.
• Rules-based validation systems.
