Job Description
SmartBug Media is seeking a Strategist, SEO to work closely with clients and marketing teams to develop and implement SEO strategies that leverage best practices and improve performance. This role is integral in providing quality standards for keyword research, website SEO audits, Schema implementation, link building, SEO analytics, and all off-page SEO activities.
Responsibilities
- Build SEO services and best practices, including keyword research, website SEO audits, implementing Schema, link building, SEO analytics, and both on-page and off-page SEO activities.
- Conduct SEO audits of client website performance.
- Map content strategies to the buyer journey, identifying gaps and prioritizing high-impact topics for organic acquisition.
- Develop detailed SEO content briefs, including semantic clusters and on-page optimizations.
- Build analytics reports on keyword and site rankings, domain performance, backlinks, on-page performance, and organic traffic trends.
- Diagnose and resolve organic traffic and SEO issues.
- Set up proper performance tracking on-site domains.
- Implement Google Search Console and Google Analytics.
- Inform team of algorithm updates and SEO news.
- Advise on best practices around domain architecture.
- Provide expertise for complex SEO problems/opportunities.
- Other responsibilities as assigned.
Technical Skills
- Lead technical SEO audits for issues related to crawlability, indexability, site speed, and mobile-friendliness.
- Collaborate with development teams to implement complex SEO recommendations.
- Conduct in-depth analysis of website architecture for optimization recommendations.
- Develop strategies for international SEO, managing hreflang attributes.
- Stay informed on emerging SEO trends and algorithm updates.
- Oversee technical aspects of website migrations and redesigns.
- Experience with JavaScript SEO and how search engines render dynamic content.
- Curiosity and expertise in AI and LLM influence on SEO strategy.
- Optional: Utilize server log file analysis for insights on search engine interactions.
Experience and Education
- B.A. or B.S. degree is required.
- French and English proficiency.
- 5-8 years of progressive SEO experience with a digital marketing agency or in-house team.
- Proven track record in developing and implementing SEO strategies for multi-domain websites.
- Comprehensive knowledge of organic search and search engine ranking algorithms.
- Expert knowledge of SEO platforms and tools (e.g., Google Analytics, Semrush).
- Proficiency in web development best practices (code ability not required).
- Advanced reporting skills in Excel/Google Sheets.
- Experience with HubSpot preferred but not required.
- Proven ability to analyze market and customer data into SEO strategies.
- Experience presenting to clients or executives preferred.
- Excellent writing skills for SEO-friendly content.
- Proficiency in Google Suite.
- Experience working remotely in similar roles is strongly preferred.
