Job Description
The Government of Alberta’s Data Centre of Excellence is seeking an experienced Data Analytics Specialist / Data Scientist to support strategic analytics, AI, machine learning, and data modernization initiatives. The successful candidate will work on advanced analytical solutions, predictive modeling, dashboards, AI-enabled applications, and enterprise data products that support decision-making across government ministries.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop advanced analytics and AI-enabled solutions
- Build predictive and prescriptive analytical models
- Analyze and prepare large datasets for business insights
- Develop dashboards, visualizations, and reporting solutions
- Apply machine learning, clustering, regression, and statistical modeling techniques
- Collaborate with business and technical stakeholders to identify analytics opportunities
- Design data products, workflows, and analytical pipelines
- Present analytical findings and recommendations to leadership teams
- Support data governance, metadata, and data quality initiatives
Requirements
Mandatory Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, IT, Statistics, or a related field
- 6+ years of experience in Data Analytics / Data Science
- 6+ years of experience with Python, R, and SQL
- 6+ years building analytical and quantitative models
- 6+ years working with predictive and prescriptive analytics
- Strong knowledge of statistical modeling and data mining techniques
- 2+ years developing AI-enabled or analytics applications using modern web frameworks such as React.js or Vue.js
- Experience with cloud and big data platforms such as Azure, Snowflake, Hadoop, or Spark
Preferred Skills
- Power BI / Tableau dashboard development
- Data engineering and pipeline design
- Government or public-sector data experience
- Knowledge of data governance, de-identification, synthetic data, and metadata management
- Strong stakeholder communication and consulting skills
Work Environment
Remote within Canada, with occasional onsite meetings in Edmonton required. Standard Alberta business hours apply.
