Job Description
The UI/UX Analyst is responsible for establishing the overall application look and feel while designing, communicating, and executing all user interface screens for each business requirement. This role directs the overall design and user experience for the delivered product and collaborates closely with the Business Analyst and Technical Lead to deliver solutions that meet or exceed customer requirements.
Job Duties
- Understand project scope and collaborate with project team on requirements, functionality, size, scalability, and usability of the IT solution.
- Adhere to project schedule, examining existing business processes and systems to develop comprehensive interface design and usability.
- Work with UAT testers and conduct usability testing to ensure compliance with UI/UX best practices.
- Resolve critical IT issues related to the UI/UX role.
- Participate in requirement gathering meetings and brainstorm sessions with business owners to identify usability concerns and desires.
- Conduct user interviews, research, observations, and testing as required; develop personas, user flows/journey maps, and/or storyboards.
- Facilitate regular design meetings during the application development process.
- Analyze current user(s) flow, pain points, and usability needs to deliver appropriate solutions.
- Lead the overall visual design, usability, and accessibility of the product.
- Provide expertise on design patterns, screen layout decisions, and usability testing to the project team.
- Advocate for the end user and continually work to enhance design and usability within budget constraints.
- Create sketches, wireframes, and mockups of user interface screens following State of Michigan (SOM) standards and ADA requirements.
- Produce high-fidelity functioning prototypes when applicable.
- Review wireframes with the Business Analyst for business requirements and Technical Lead for technical feasibility before presenting to the business.
- Provide resources to assist the development team with UI/UX best practices, coding standards, and ADA vulnerability remediation.
- Ensure conformance to SOM Applications and Site Standards and perform accessibility testing for ADA compliance.
- Facilitate usability tests with intended users and iterate screen designs accordingly.
- Advise developers on accessibility requirements and remediation strategies.
- Serve as liaison to DTMB Center for Shared Solutions (CSS) eMichigan team.
Requirements
- 3-5 years of experience in user interface (UI) design.
- Experience conducting user research.
- Degree or certification in Graphic Design, Interaction Design, User Interface Design, or a related field.
- Portfolio submission required to demonstrate design skills and project experience.
- 2-3 professional references required.
Desired Skills
- Experience designing in alignment with established design standards.
- Knowledge of WCAG guidelines and experience designing for accessibility.
- Experience conducting usability testing.
- Experience performing accessibility (ADA) testing.
Minimum Education
- Bachelor’s Degree.
Location
- Candidates must be local to the Lansing, Michigan area (within 90 miles) at the time of submission; this requirement is non-negotiable.
- The position offers a hybrid schedule (non-negotiable): required onsite days are Tuesdays and Wednesdays, with remote eligible days on Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays.
- Working hours are Monday-Friday, approximately 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

- Must be authorized to work in the United States; sponsorships are not available at this time.
- Must undergo a background check and drug screening for employment.
Employment Terms
- This is a W2 position.
- 40 hours per week.
- HYBRID schedule (non-negotiable): onsite required days are Tuesdays and Wednesdays, remote eligible days are Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays.
