Job Description

This is a remote position for a skilled Senior Backend Developer (Java & GCP) to join a major project within the financial services sector. In this role, you will focus on building scalable systems, microservices, and event-driven architectures. Working predominantly from home, you will collaborate with an international team to deliver high-quality backend services and APIs.

• Position: Senior Backend Developer (Java & GCP)
• Employment Type: Contract/Freelance, 1 FTE
• Duration: until 31st December 2026 (with a strong option for extension)
• Remuneration: Daily rate available
• Location: Remote with occasional onsite visits in Germany

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain robust backend services and scalable systems using Java.
• Architect and implement cloud-native solutions leveraging the Google Cloud Platform (GCP) ecosystem.
• Develop high-performance microservices and handle asynchronous data processing.
• Work extensively with event-driven architectures and messaging systems such as Pub/Sub and RabbitMQ.
• Manage and optimise relational databases, specifically focusing on PostgreSQL.
• Design, build, and integrate secure and efficient RESTful APIs.
• Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless project delivery.

Requirements

Must-Have Requirements

• Proven senior-level experience in backend software development with a strong Java background.
• Solid, hands-on experience working with Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
• Deep understanding of microservices architecture and asynchronous data processing.
• Practical experience with event-driven systems and message brokers (e.g., Pub/Sub, RabbitMQ).
• Strong proficiency with PostgreSQL or similar relational databases.
• Experience designing and implementing scalable backend services and APIs.
• Fluency in English (the primary working language).
• Eligibility and residency in the EU, EEA, UK, or Switzerland.

Preferred Requirements

• Professional experience working within the Financial Services sector.
• Proficiency in German is preferred.
