Job Description

Halogen Engineering is seeking a User Experience Designer with 10 years of experience and a current TS/SCI clearance with Polygraph required. The designer will lead the planning, design, and development activities to create user experiences for devices, tools, and systems. Responsibilities include establishing interactive conventions, gathering user requirements, mocking-up user experiences, and collaborating with development teams and subject matter experts. The designer will utilize their visualization and screen design expertise to create successful user experiences.

Salary Range

The projected salary range for this position is $126K-$151K (annualized USD). Salary is determined by factors such as location, education, skills, experience, and organizational requirements.

Requirements

• Hands-on experience conducting usability testing, interviews, and contextual inquiries directly with end users.
• Comfortable assisting research sessions alongside a UX lead; experience running studies end-to-end is a plus.
• Familiarity with qualitative and quantitative data collection methods, with demonstrated experience being a plus.
• Strong note-taking and data organization skills for accurate reporting.
• Reliable execution of research protocols with minimal guidance.
• Ability to operate in ambiguous environments and define research questions independently is a plus.
• Three years of experience with screen mock-up tools (e.g., Powerpoint, Visio, Axure) is required.

Desired Skills

• Operate in an agile development environment requiring weekly User Experience feedback.
• Conduct User Experience research and optimization.
• Create final visual designs, storyboards, interaction flows, and interface guidelines.
• Craft design solutions that fulfill both user needs and product strategy requirements.
• Collaborate with Product Owners to rapidly prototype and iterate designs.
• Ensure design standards are maintained by reviewing implementations with developers.
• Communicate effectively across teams and provide constructive feedback.
• Lead project life cycle design, including customer interviews and presenting findings.
• Manage diverse engineering teams in User Experience research and optimization.

Qualifications

• Ten years of experience in User Experience Design.
• Five years of experience leading project life cycle design within the last ten years.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related discipline required; four years of additional experience may substitute for the degree.
