Job Description

Halogen Engineering is seeking a User Experience Designer who will be responsible for leading the planning, design, and development activities to create the user experience for devices, tools, and systems. The role includes establishing interactive conventions, gathering user requirements, mocking-up user experiences, participating in trade-off discussions, analyzing tool sets, creating screen mock-ups, and helping customers envision new interactive techniques and technologies. The designer will apply visualization and screen design expertise to establish a successful user experience.

Requirements

• Hands-on experience conducting usability testing, interviews, and/or contextual inquiry directly with end users.
• Comfortable assisting research sessions alongside a UX lead; experience running research studies independently is a plus.
• Working knowledge of qualitative and quantitative data collection methods (e.g., usability testing, surveys, analytics review).
• Strong note-taking and data organization skills for capturing and structuring findings for synthesis and analysis.
• Reliable execution of research protocols with minimal independent strategy needed.
• Experience with Information Technology: Three years experience with screen mock-up tools (e.g., Powerpoint, Visio, Axure).
• Comfort with ambiguous, evolving requirements typical of mission/IC environments; ability to define research questions is a plus.

Desired Skills

• Operate in an agile development environment providing weekly User Experience feedback.
• Conduct User Experience research and optimization.
• Create final visual designs, storyboards, interaction flows, and interface guidelines.
• Adopt a user-centered approach in crafting design solutions.
• Work with Product Owners to rapidly prototype and iterate design solutions.
• Review final implementation with front-end developers to ensure design standards are met.
• Collaborate across teams and communicate effectively with stakeholders.
• Lead project lifecycle design from interviewing customers to solving design-related questions.
• Manage diverse engineering teams in conducting User Experience research and optimization.

Qualifications

• Ten years’ experience in User Experience Design.
• Five years’ experience within the last decade leading project life cycle design.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related discipline; four years of additional User Experience Design experience may substitute for the degree.

Salary Range: $126K-$151K (annualized USD)
