Screenplay Writer
$2,000–$3,500 Remote
Elizabeth Keckley Accompanied By Donovan
New York City, United States

Logline: From the cruel plantations of the South to the hallowed halls of the White House, Elizabeth Keckley’s extraordinary journey from slavery to freedom unfolds, weaving a tale of resilience, empowerment, and an unprecedented friendship with First Lady Mary Todd Lincoln during America’s most tumultuous era.

Elizabeth Keckley is my ancestor and this Writer is devoted to having her story told
based on her own biographical book titled: “Behind The Scenes, 30 Years A Slave.”
This Writer have prepared a Treatment of the story, which can be expanded.

I am seeking a well-versed screenwriter who can adapt this 19th century biographical period piece book into a compelling screenplay. Elizabeth Keckly was a first hand
witness to the harshness of slavery, the Lincoln household, his politics, was exposed to Frederick Douglas, Robert E. Lee, Jefferson Davis and other notable political icons, wealthy individuals, abolitionist figures as the dressmaker for Mary Todd Lincoln.
Toward the end of Elizabeth’s Keckley’s life she became involved with women’s advocacy, housing former slaves, teaching dressmaking at an HBCU, and campaigned for the first black nominee (George Edwin Taylor) for President of the United States
for the National Liberty Party. George Edwin Taylor son of a former slave ran against and challenged Theodore Roosevelt in the 1904 election.

This was a ground breaking and explosive presidential campaign of a completely forgotten black charismatic presidential figure and this some how may have contributed to the 2008 campaign of Barak Obama.

This is a single job with potential for follow-up work, and I need someone who can deliver the project within 45 days. Experience with historical or biographical adaptations is important, along with understanding the language, racial consciousness, and nuances of the time.

Medium project ($2,000 – 3,500 USD)
