A 6 minute short form 2D animation of Pele's (famous soccer player) lifeUrgent
We are Interesting People (on YouTube) and want to create a short biographical 2D animated video about the life of Pele, using a script already prepared. We’re looking for a skilled 2D animator who can bring this story to life in a style similar to Oversimplified, with simple, engaging visuals and dry humour. The project also requires a voiceover artist who can provide clear, easy-to-understand narration with a dry delivery. Our goal is to produce a 6-minute video that summarizes Pele’s life in an entertaining and informative way. We aim to create more such videos in the future about other famous people, so we’re also interested in finding someone who can understand our concept and potentially collaborate on future projects. This role requires someone who can deliver on a tight deadline (ideally within a week, but up to two weeks is negotiable), work to instructions, and offer helpful suggestions or feedback to improve the content. The work is fully remote, and you’ll be joining us at the start of our YouTube journey.

The following is the script of the story on Pele’s life:
(Scene1: Early life)
Pelé was born on the 23rd of October 1940 to parents João Nascimento and Celeste Nascimento. While you might know him as Pelé, his real name was Edson Nascimento. He adopted the name “Pelé” after being teased by classmates for mispronouncing the name of the Brazilian goalkeeper Bilé. The nickname annoyed him so much that he even got into fights over it, but eventually he decided to embrace it. Pelé faced many obstacles growing up, one of the biggest being poverty. His family sometimes struggled to afford enough food, and by the age of six, Pelé was already helping support them by shining shoes.
(Scene 2: Birth of a legend)
From a young age, Pelé’s dedication to football was never in doubt. Without a proper ball to play with, he used rolled-up socks, newspapers, and even a grapefruit as a football. At the age of 11, Pelé joined his first youth team. The team’s coach, Waldemar de Brito, who formerly played for Brazil’s national team, and he was so impressed by Pelé’s talent that four years later he personally took him to Santos FC’s training ground and told the club to sign him.
{de brito speaking} “Hey guys you have to check out my boy Pele, he can kick a grapefruit like no other, he’s really quick, and” (gets cut of by Santos management)
{Santos management speaking} “I’m sorry what did you say your name was?”
So luckily for Pele de brito still was still a big enough name in Brazilian football, once the Santos management found out it was him suggesting Pele, they agreed to give Pele a chance. De brito went down in history as perhaps the first person to truly recognise just how special Pelé was.
(Santos management speaking) “These are football boots they have really spiky bits on the bottom that are designed to stab the opposition with, this is a football not made out of a grapefruit, and this is the team jersey. Any questions?”
In his first season with Santos, Pelé finished as the league’s top goalscorer. This earned him a call-up to the Brazilian national team. His debut for Brazil ended in a 2–1 loss to Argentina, with Pelé scoring Brazil’s only goal, becoming the youngest goalscorer in Brazil’s history—a record that still stands today.
(Scene 3: 1958 World Cup)
Pelé’s performances for both club and country perfectly set him up for the 1958 FIFA World Cup. Brazil had endured years of heartbreak at the tournament, always seeming to fall at the final hurdle. Pelé only being 17 years old at the time, had an entire nation’s hopes and dreams resting on his shoulders. Sadly, Pelé couldn’t make an immediate impact. He suffered an injury in Brazil’s first game of the tournament and was forced to miss Brazil’s next two matches as a result. However, he returned for the quarter-final against Wales, where Brazil desperately needed a win. Pelé delivered, scoring the only goal of the match. In the semi-final against France, Brazil won 5–2, with Pelé scoring 3 of Brazil’s 5 goals. That left just one game standing between Brazil and history, their opponents? The generational star-studded team of Sweden. Brazil entered the final as complete underdogs, and things weren’t looking promising for Brazil. But in one of the biggest moments in football history, Brazil defeated Sweden 5–2, with Pelé scoring two goals. At just 17 years old, Pelé had brought the world cup home for his nation of Brazil, while arguably being their most important player, this made Pelé famous around the world and turned him into a national hero back home in Brazil.
(Scene 4: Full career)
Pelé would go on to win two more World Cups with Brazil, becoming the only player in history to win three FIFA World Cups. His club career lasted from 1956 to 1974, during which he played exclusively for Santos FC. Across 1,367 matches, Pelé would score 1,283 goals. During his time at Santos, he won 10 São Paulo Championships, 6 Brazilian league titles, and 2 Copa Libertadores trophies. In 1975, only a year after retiring, Pelé found himself in financial trouble and was even at risk of bankruptcy. So when the New York Cosmos offered him a very lucrative contract to play in the United States, saying he jumped at the opportunity would be an understatement.
{Pelé speaking} “I want to help grow football in America.”
(Shows him rolling around in piles of money.)
{Pelé speaking} “I love America.”
Pelé played three seasons for the New York Cosmos before finally deciding to hang up his boots for good and retire.
(Scene 5: Later life)
After retiring, Pelé went on to be FIFA’s ambassador, UNICEF’s Goodwill Ambassador, and Brazil’s Minister of Sports. Away from work, he spent much of his time with his family and could often be seen attending Brazil’s football matches. Later in life, Pelé developed problems with his hips, kidneys, and in 2021 he was diagnosed with colon cancer.
Scene 6: (Death)
On the 29th of December 2022, at the age of 82, Pelé passed away in São Paulo, Brazil, due to his before mentioned colon cancer, surrounded by his family and loved ones. To this day, Pelé is still regarded by many as the greatest footballer of all time. His impact on the sport transformed football into a truly global game, and his legacy continues to inspire players and fans around the world.

About the client
