  • Memorize 2-3 songs (minimum) on the JKMC song list to deliver a high-energy, engaging performance in the audience.
  • Move around and dance while on the bandstand to enhance performance energy, even on songs that don’t feature the saxophone.
  • Ability to perform 3-4 hour sets (sometimes with minimal breaks).
  • Perform in occasional cocktail hours (instrumental jazz or pop duos, trios, quartets) when needed, with extra pay often included.
  • Perform in occasional wedding ceremonies (instrumental jazz, pop, or classical solo, duo, trio, or quartet) when needed, with extra pay often included.
  • Maintain a positive attitude with other musicians and bandleaders.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a party band (or similar style) saxophone player.
  • Proficient music reading ability.

  • Ability to perform multiple styles, including Top 40, rock, Latin, jazz, big band, etc.
  • Ability to play with a click track and backing tracks.
  • Must own their own saxophone and appropriate gear (reeds, mouthpiece, etc.); the company provides mics and monitors.
  • Must have an easy to work with, “go with the flow” attitude.

Preferred

  • Willing to travel.
  • Experience leading a horn section at high-profile events.

Compensation

Pay is $200 per local event (wage could increase depending on distance traveled from van pick-up) on an event-to-event basis as a freelance contractor, with the possibility of added bonuses for specific events.
