Job Description
This is a temporary role for a Piano Accompanist at Madera Community College, CA. The position involves providing piano accompaniment for music classes, rehearsals, recitals, and concerts. The accompanist will assist instructors, coach students, coordinate sheet music, and may provide instrumental accompaniment as needed.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Fundamentals of piano playing, music theory, harmony, rhythm, composition, transition, and tempo.
- Musical terms, signs, and abbreviations.
- Understanding of the relationship between the vocal instrument and the piano.
- Familiarity with a wide variety of musical styles.
- Connection between poetry/libretto and music.
Skills and Abilities
- Effectively work with students to diagnose needs and improve skills.
- Follow a soloist or conductor in musical performance.
- Improvise, adapt music, and memorize selections.
- Sight-read and perform music on the piano.
- Determine performance quality and support instructors.
- Communicate effectively in writing and orally.
- Utilize computers and standard business software.
- Build and maintain effective working relationships.
Education and Experience
High school graduation or GED equivalent and at least three years of experience accompanying vocal or choral groups, dancers, or similar musical work in an organized educational or professional setting. Formal piano study is preferred, with a bachelor’s or master’s degree in piano being desirable.
Licenses, Certificates, and Other Requirements
A valid California driver’s license may be required for certain assignments.
Physical and Mental Demands
Physical Demands
Employees should be able to sit, talk, hear, use hands repetitively for playing the piano, and lift up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision and adjusting focus.
Mental Demands
Duties require effective communication, problem-solving, the ability to work on multiple tasks concurrently, and interaction with District faculty, staff, and the public.
Working Environment
The work environment is generally a classroom or theater with varying noise levels. Employees may need to travel to other locations and can expect changes in work schedules.
Additional Information
