Job Description

The Michigan Department of Technology, Management and Budget (DTMB) is seeking an experienced Senior Data Engineer to support statewide portfolio reporting, business intelligence, and data analytics for the State Unified Information Technology Environment (SUITE) Investment Management program. The successful candidate will serve as a technical and analytical resource within the Enterprise Portfolio Management Office (EPMO), focusing on designing, developing, implementing, and maintaining enterprise reporting and business intelligence solutions to enable effective portfolio governance and performance management.

Collaboration with executive leadership, portfolio managers, and technical teams is essential, as the Senior Data Engineer will transform data from multiple enterprise systems into actionable business intelligence to inform investment management and decision-making.

Requirements

• 4-7 years of experience, with a minimum of 3 years in data engineering, business intelligence, data analytics, or related IT disciplines.
• Proven experience in designing, developing, implementing, and maintaining enterprise reporting and business intelligence solutions.
• Experience in integrating, transforming, and analyzing data from multiple enterprise systems using SQL and modern data engineering techniques.
• Expertise in developing interactive dashboards, scorecards, and executive reporting with Microsoft Power BI or similar platforms.
• Experience in gathering, analyzing, and documenting business requirements and translating them into reporting solutions.
• Strong analytical skills, with ability to analyze portfolio and project data for executive decision-making.
• Experience in optimizing SQL queries and data transformation processes.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to convey technical information effectively.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple assignments and stakeholder expectations independently.

Desired Skills

• Familiarity with Project Portfolio Management (PPM) systems.
• Understanding of portfolio management and investment management practices.
• Experience with Microsoft analytics technologies.
• Knowledge in enterprise data warehousing and semantic models.
• Proficiency in developing automated reporting solutions.
• Experience in government or large enterprise reporting environments.
• Familiarity with project management methodologies.
• Understanding of financial management and capital investment management.

Minimum Education

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, Business Analytics, Management Information Systems, Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, or a related field.
• Equivalent combinations of education, technical training, certifications, and related experience may be considered.

Location

• Local candidates only. Must be located in Michigan at time of submission and able to abide by the hybrid work schedule.
• Position has a hybrid schedule with onsite requirements (two days a week including Wednesdays and Thursdays).
• Working hours are Monday-Friday from approximately 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

• Must undergo a background check and drug screening for employment.

Employment Terms

• This is a W2 position with 40 hours per week.
• HYBRID schedule - onsite from day 1, two days a week.
