Job Description

Babel Audio is seeking detail-oriented transcribers to assist in converting audio recordings into accurate and structured text. The audio you will be handling includes natural conversations and scripted speech across a wide range of topics, speakers, and acoustic environments. The role requires participants to have excellent listening skills and a meticulous attention to all details in the recordings, not just the spoken words. Our transcription standards aim to capture the full richness of human communication, and you will be required to annotate the audio you hear, including words, noises, and non-speech audio. You will work based on clear guidelines and reference materials that define how each type of label should be used, with focus on accuracy, consistency, and attention to detail being the core requirements of the position.

Requirements

• Native-level proficiency in Chinese
• Excellent listening skills, able to parse overlapping speech, speakers with accents, and recordings of varying quality
• Ability to proficiently use structured annotation guidelines, including beyond text-based labeling specifications
• Organized and consistent work style, able to apply established styles to multi-hour audio
• Experience in transcription, subtitling, image description, or related fields is preferred but not required

Compensation

• Up to $110 USD per hour of audio transcribed
• Possibility of additional performance incentives

Technical Requirements

• Reliable and properly functioning computer with a stable internet connection
• Recommended use of headphones or headsets for accurate audio listening
• Quiet environment to facilitate focused listening
