Job Description
We are seeking a highly experienced Freelance Senior Storyboard Artist to join an episodic animation production. This role is ideal for an artist with exceptional cinematic storytelling skills and extensive experience creating storyboards for animation, virtual production, VFX, or cinematic games. The ideal candidate understands both traditional storyboarding and modern real-time 3D production workflows, particularly those involving Unreal Engine. Your storyboards will serve as the visual blueprint for production, requiring strong narrative instincts, technical accuracy, and seamless collaboration with directors and 3D production teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Create high-quality, cinematic storyboard sequences from scripts, treatments, and director notes.
- Develop strong visual storytelling through composition, staging, camera angles, pacing, shot continuity, and character acting.
- Design sequences that translate efficiently into an Unreal Engine-based production pipeline.
- Work with 3D assets, environments, and basic camera block-ins to ensure accurate shot planning.
- Collaborate closely with Directors, Previs Artists, Layout Artists, Unreal Engine teams, and Production staff.
- Revise boards quickly based on creative feedback while maintaining production deadlines.
- Deliver organized, production-ready storyboard files with clear shot numbering and annotations.
- Maintain continuity across multiple episodes and ensure visual consistency.
Requirements
Required Qualifications/Experience
- Minimum 7 years of professional storyboard experience.
- Minimum 5 years in a senior-level role within animation, VFX, virtual production, or cinematic game development.
- Demonstrated experience working on episodic series (TV, streaming, or similar long-form productions).
- Experience working in a fast-paced production environment with multiple revision rounds.
Technical Skills
- Expert-level proficiency in Storyboard Pro and/or Adobe Photoshop.
- Strong understanding of cinematic language, including camera composition, lens choices, shot continuity, screen direction, editing rhythm, visual pacing, and character performance.
- Experience collaborating with teams using Unreal Engine or other real-time rendering/previsualization workflows.
- Familiarity with 3D layout, virtual cameras, and scene blocking.
- Knowledge of production pipelines from storyboard through layout, previs, animation, and final render.
Professional Skills
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to interpret creative direction while contributing visual storytelling ideas.
- Strong time management with the ability to meet aggressive production schedules.
- Comfortable working remotely with distributed teams across multiple time zones.
- Fluent written and spoken English.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with action-heavy, dialogue-driven, or cinematic storytelling.
- Experience with motion comics, virtual production, or game cinematics.
- Familiarity with editing software such as Adobe Premiere Pro.
- Basic knowledge of Blender, Maya, or other 3D software.
- Experience working directly with Directors or Showrunners.

Important Notes
Applications that do not include a portfolio/reel, Unreal Engine experience, years of experience, and Rate Per Panel (USD) will not be considered. Only candidates with demonstrated experience in high-end episodic animation, cinematic games, virtual production, or VFX will be shortlisted.
