JOB DESCRIPTION

We are partnering with a prestigious higher education institution in the Atlanta area seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Temporary SharePoint Designer to join its Communications & External Relations team for a 6-month assignment. This role will lead the modernization and expansion of the institution’s internal SharePoint-based employee portal by designing new pages, enhancing existing content, and creating an engaging, user-friendly digital experience. The ideal candidate combines strong Microsoft SharePoint expertise with an eye for clean design, intuitive navigation, and exceptional user experience. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys collaborating with cross-functional teams, organizing digital content, and building modern intranet solutions that improve communication and employee engagement.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

SharePoint Development & Portal Modernization

  • Design, build, and launch new pages within the organization’s SharePoint-based intranet portal to support departmental and institutional initiatives.
  • Modernize existing legacy SharePoint pages by transforming outdated layouts into clean, responsive, and user-friendly experiences.
  • Improve site navigation, page layouts, and information architecture to ensure content is organized, accessible, and easy to navigate.
  • Develop standardized page templates and design components that promote consistency across the portal.

Digital Collaboration & Content Management

  • Collaborate with Technology Services, Communications, and campus departments to gather business requirements, content, images, and functionality needs.
  • Translate stakeholder requests into visually engaging, functional SharePoint solutions.
  • Ensure all portal content aligns with institutional branding, web standards, and accessibility guidelines.
  • Integrate Microsoft 365 tools including Forms, Lists, Document Libraries, and other collaborative resources into SharePoint pages.

Quality Assurance & Technical Support

  • Perform quality assurance testing to ensure pages function properly across multiple browsers and devices.
  • Validate page permissions, navigation, links, formatting, and overall user experience before publication.
  • Troubleshoot SharePoint page layouts, web parts, formatting issues, and basic configuration challenges.
  • Maintain documentation and best practices for future SharePoint development and content management.

Project Coordination

  • Manage multiple SharePoint projects simultaneously while meeting established deadlines.
  • Communicate project progress and timelines with stakeholders and leadership.
  • Recommend opportunities to improve portal usability, organization, and overall employee experience.
  • Stay current with Microsoft SharePoint and Microsoft 365 enhancements, applying best practices where appropriate.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Web Design, Digital Communications, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience).
  • Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience designing, developing, and maintaining Microsoft SharePoint environments.
  • Experience building and maintaining Modern SharePoint Communication Sites, Hub Sites, and intranet portals.
  • Strong knowledge of:
  • Microsoft SharePoint Online
  • Microsoft 365
  • SharePoint Modern Experience
  • Site Navigation & Information Architecture
  • Page Design & Content Management
  • Experience working with SharePoint Framework (SPFx) and SharePoint web parts.
  • Working knowledge of HTML and CSS for formatting and customization is strongly preferred.
  • Experience integrating Microsoft 365 applications including Forms, Lists, Document Libraries, and related collaboration tools.
  • Strong understanding of user experience (UX), digital accessibility, and responsive page design.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple concurrent projects.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
  • Previous experience supporting higher education or large organizational intranet environments is highly preferred.
