Position Title: Software Engineer (Full-Stack)

Location: Remote / Sydney / Wollongong, New South Wales

Reports to: Manager - Digital & AI

Unit: Secora Garage

Employment Type: Fixed Term Contract – with the option to move to fulltime

Secora is a leading asset management improvement and implementation company, specialising in productivity enhancement and change across diverse sectors including defence, resources, and energy generation. The Secora Garage is our innovation space, working with clients to rapidly design, prototype, and implement industrial AI solutions that provide operational value in complex environments.

We’re looking for a mid-level Software Engineer (around 4-5 years’ experience) to join the Secora Garage team, working on a complex project for an oil & gas company, helping to build full-stack solutions that support two Pilot products.

Requirements

Core skills (a must):
• Full-stack software engineering: Python, React, Git/GitHub, and solid ETL/SQL skills.

• Cloud platform experience (Azure preferred; experience on any major cloud is transferable).

• Effective use of agentic coding tools (e.g. Copilot, Claude Code) — able to use them well without offloading judgement, and to collaborate with others using the same tools.

• Solution design instinct — ability to form a view on what the solution needs to achieve, not just follow instructions.

• Comfortable working in a small team with open communication, providing and receiving feedback, and raising blockers early.

• Resourceful and self-directed.

• Willingness to explore unfamiliar territory — openness to learning about areas such as SAP, emerging AI methods, knowledge graphs, and answer set programming.

Essential Experience & Skills:
• Around 4-5 years’ experience in full-stack software engineering.

• Strong Python and React skills, along with solid ETL and SQL capability.

• Experience with Git/GitHub and standard version control workflows.

• Practical experience on a major cloud platform (Azure preferred; AWS/GCP experience transferable).

• Demonstrated effective, judgement-led use of agentic coding tools such as Copilot or Claude Code.

• Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Desirable Experience & Skills:
• Familiarity with Azure Cloud Platform, Azure Foundry (AI Ops), Databricks.

• Domain knowledge in SAP Plant Maintenance modules, engineering/oil & gas, answer set programming, and knowledge graphs.

Qualifications:
• Tertiary qualification in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, or equivalent practical experience.

Additional Information
