Job Description

The Senior DevOps / Cloud Engineer will provide technical expertise in designing, building, automating, securing, and supporting cloud environments for large-scale Public Health initiatives. The successful candidate will have extensive hands-on experience with AWS cloud technologies, Linux administration, Kubernetes, Docker, CI/CD automation, cloud security, monitoring, and enterprise application integration. The role is 100% onsite in Toronto, ON, with a contract duration from October 23, 2026, to March 31, 2027, and requires CRJMC security clearance.

Requirements

Mandatory Technical Skills & Experience

AWS Cloud Expertise

• Minimum 10+ years of overall IT experience.
• Extensive experience creating, managing, and maintaining AWS and related cloud-based production systems.
• Strong experience with deployment and automation of packages for cloud-based systems.
• Proven ability to ensure availability, performance, security, and scalability of AWS production environments.
• Excellent hands-on knowledge of AWS services including Amazon VPC, AWS Firewall, Elastic Load Balancing, Auto Scaling, AWS IAM, Amazon EC2, Amazon S3, Amazon API Gateway, AWS Lambda, Amazon Aurora, Amazon Redshift, ActiveMQ, AWS CloudTrail, AWS CloudWatch, and other relevant AWS services.
• Knowledge and experience with Amazon Connect, Amazon Pinpoint, Amazon DynamoDB, Amazon Kinesis Data Streams, and Amazon Polly.

DevOps, Automation & Containers

• Experience with GitLab or similar DevOps tools and CI/CD integration.
• Experience with build and configuration management tools such as Git, Ansible, Chef, and Puppet.
• Minimum 3+ years of experience administering Kubernetes and Docker container solutions.
• Strong knowledge of container-based virtualization technologies.
• Experience with microservices, distributed architectures, containers, Kubernetes, and serverless technologies.
• Experience designing and maintaining automation solutions for operational processes.

Linux & Scripting

• Minimum 5+ years of experience working with Unix/Linux operating systems, including Red Hat and Solaris.
• Experience with installation, troubleshooting, system hardening, and automation.
• Strong scripting/programming experience with technologies such as Python, Bash, PHP, Java, JavaScript, and Node.js.

Security & Monitoring

• Proven experience implementing cloud security models related to identity and access management, network security, and encryption.
• Experience leveraging cloud security best practices and solutions to protect critical systems.
• Experience implementing metrics, logging, monitoring, and alerting solutions on AWS platforms.
• Strong understanding of industry web, architecture, and security standards and best practices.

Integration & Development Tools

• Experience integrating and building APIs.
• Knowledge of Salesforce solutions and MuleSoft API integration.
• Experience setting up development environments using Jira, Confluence, Maven, Jenkins, and similar tools.
• Experience developing and maintaining technical documentation, system design models, and specifications.

Public Sector & Healthcare Experience

• Minimum 5+ years of experience working with Federal, Provincial or broader Public Sector healthcare organizations.
• Experience delivering large and complex IT healthcare-related projects.
• Knowledge of Public Sector Enterprise Architecture artifacts, processes, and practices.
• Experience producing technical documentation aligned with industry standards.
• Knowledge of PMI and Public Sector I&IT project management methodologies.
• Knowledge and understanding of Ministry policies, IT project approval processes, and requirements.
• Experience working with various Public Sector methodologies and processes.

Additional Core Experience

• Minimum 10+ years of experience troubleshooting and tuning production environments.
• Experience providing architecture and process improvement recommendations.
• Experience evaluating new technologies and vendor products.
• Knowledge of mobile device management across various cellular and tablet platforms.
• Strong experience developing technical documentation, specifications, configuration documents, and integration plans.

Important Candidate Requirements

This is a 100% onsite position in Toronto, requiring the successful candidate to work 5 days per week onsite. Candidates must demonstrate strong, hands-on experience with the following critical AWS requirements:
