Real Recordings with MIDI Annotations (existing tracks welcome, 3–4 instruments)

We are looking for musicians, producers and audio engineers to supply real music recordings paired with note-level MIDI annotations for an AI training dataset. Part of the project is already filled, so we now need a specific set of songs.

What we need:

• Recordings of 3 to 4 minutes
• Exactly 3 or 4 instruments with each song (a vocal counts as one)
• Any of these genres: Jazz & Blues, Electronic & Hip Hop, Folk / Singer-songwriter, Heavy Metal & Rock, Contemporary & Classical
• Not needed: Non-Western, Pop & Rock, or songs with 5+ instruments (all filled)

Existing songs are ideal. If you have finished tracks that fit, with the session files still available, this is quick work: export the MIDI, correct the note endings, fill in a short sheet. Songs that need a small edit to fit (trimming to length, dropping an instrument) are fine too.

The work:

• One real recording plus a MIDI file with one track per instrument; every note carries pitch, start and end time, matching the audio to within 10 to 20 ms
• Two MIDI files per song: one as your DAW captured it, and one where you have corrected every note ending to where the sound actually stops. Both are required
• At least one instrument genuinely played by a person; performed and programmed parts can be mixed. Real drums or a played rhythm section are especially valuable
• Sung vocals welcome; rap or spoken vocals cannot be annotated as notes
• Audio and MIDI captured in the same take, existing DAW archives, or manual transcription checked note by note are all fine. Auto-transcription is allowed as a first pass only if every note is then corrected by hand
• Not suitable: audio rendered entirely from MIDI with virtual instruments

Delivery is one lossless WAV (44.1 kHz or higher), the two MIDI files and a completed metadata sheet. Full guidance is provided before you start.

Rate: $60 per accepted recording, paid through Twine once it passes review.

Timeline: Songs are assigned immediately, with delivery due within one week of approval. Apply with as many suitable songs as you have; we award individual songs, so one strong track is enough. This is the sample stage of a larger project, and the client may commission a much bigger collection afterwards.

You need:

• A DAW such as Logic, Ableton, Pro Tools or Reaper
• Existing recordings that fit, or a setup that captures real audio and MIDI together
• Full rights to the material, including permission for AI training and commercial use (co-writers and performers must have agreed too)

To apply, send a short proposal per song:

• Title and genre
• Number of instruments, what they are, and which are performed vs programmed
• Whether it already exists or would be newly recorded
• Confirmation you own the rights or can license them for this use
• A link to the track or relevant work if possible

We will come back to you quickly and assign suitable songs straight away with the full brief and contributor agreement.
