Job Description
CGI Federal is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to support large-scale data engineering and migration for a major federal modernization program. The role will focus on designing, developing, optimizing, and operating secure, reliable data pipelines for the migration, transformation, and storage of petabyte-scale structured and unstructured datasets into modern cloud environments.
Key responsibilities include:
- Designing, building, and optimizing scalable ETL/ELT data pipelines.
- Supporting multi-source and multi-format data ingestion, transformation, and loading.
- Developing data models, schemas, mapping specifications, and integration structures for legacy-to-cloud migration.
- Improving pipeline automation, performance, throughput, reliability, and fault tolerance.
- Leading data cleansing, normalization, enrichment, validation, and anomaly investigation.
- Embedding data quality checks and automated testing into pipeline workflows.
- Supporting data engineering activities in AWS and integrating data flows with broader cloud architectures.
- Ensuring compliance with security, logging, auditing, and data-handling requirements.
- Mentoring data migration and mid-level data engineers.
- Participating in technical reviews, sprint activities, architecture discussions, readiness assessments, and planning.
- Producing pipeline diagrams, mapping specifications, data dictionaries, and process documentation.
- Monitoring migration progress, pipeline performance, data quality, and operational risks, while helping resolve blockers.
Requirements
Required Qualifications
- Active Top Secret security clearance.
- U.S. citizenship.
- Bachelor’s degree and at least 8 years of experience in data engineering, ETL development, or large-scale data operations.
- Hands-on experience building pipelines for structured and unstructured data in enterprise environments.
- Strong skills in data modeling, transformation logic, and automation.
- Familiarity with cloud environments, preferably AWS, as well as DevSecOps tools and scripting languages.
- Excellent analytical, documentation, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with petabyte-scale or multi-system migration programs.
- Experience supporting DOJ, FBI, Intelligence Community, or national security customers.
- Experience integrating CI/CD, automated testing pipelines, or microservice architectures.
- Advanced knowledge of ETL frameworks, distributed computing tools, or cloud-native data services.

This position supports a U.S. government contract and requires U.S. citizenship and the ability to complete a background investigation. Investigation requirements may vary based on the assignment and security clearance level and may include a credit check where permitted by law.
