Job Description
Wizards of the Coast is seeking a Contract Commissioning Art Director to support Magic: The Gathering. This role involves collaborating with fantasy illustrators to create high-quality artwork for Magic cards.
- Commission a high volume of artwork by selecting freelance illustrators, providing ongoing art direction, managing relationships, and tracking project status.
- Review print-ready files to ensure final card quality.
- Participate in creative brainstorming and improve workflows and processes with department leaders.
Requirements
- At least 2 years of commercial art experience.
- Portfolio demonstrating strong creative vision and a cinematic perspective.
- Understanding of Magic: The Gathering as both a game and a brand.
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to give and receive feedback.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- In-depth knowledge of the fantasy illustration market, current talent, and modern print and press techniques.
- Interest in discovering diverse and emerging artists.
- Advanced proficiency in Adobe Photoshop.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Employment Details
- Temporary assignment through Workwell, an external staffing agency.
- Employment type: Contingent worker and W-2 employee of Workwell, not Wizards of the Coast.
- Location: Washington state or fully remote within the United States.
- Duration: Up to 12 months.
Compensation and Benefits
- Hourly pay range: $53.80–$80.67 USD.
