Job Description

We are seeking a fast-moving, creative Freelance News Video Producer/Editor to create timely, engaging social video content. The ideal candidate has a journalism, broadcast news, digital media, or editorial background; closely follows current events; and understands how news, storytelling, and social media intersect.

Working with the show’s production team, the producer/editor will attend podcast recordings, identify compelling moments in real time, pitch social content ideas, and produce polished short-form videos for TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts. This hands-on role requires excellent editorial judgment, advanced video editing skills, and the ability to work quickly when news or content priorities change.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Attend podcast recordings and identify compelling, timely, and shareable moments.
  • Take notes during recordings and select clips based on news value, audience interest, entertainment value, and social potential.
  • Pitch clip ideas, social breakouts, promotional concepts, and other content opportunities.
  • Edit approximately two to three social videos per interview.
  • Create polished vertical videos optimized for TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts.
  • Produce promotional videos, teaser clips, quote cards, and other social assets.
  • Manage content from editing through publishing across relevant social platforms.
  • Monitor breaking news, current events, internet culture, memes, and social trends for timely content opportunities.
  • Adapt quickly when news breaks or production priorities change.
  • Maintain organized project files, footage, and video assets.
  • Communicate proactively with the host and production team regarding ideas, edits, approvals, and deadlines.
  • Deliver high-quality work under tight turnaround times.

Requirements

  • At least three years of professional video editing experience.
  • Background in journalism, broadcast news, digital publications, media, or a closely related editorial environment.
  • Strong passion for and understanding of current events, the news cycle, and the broader media landscape.
  • Expert proficiency in Adobe Premiere Pro.
  • Proven experience producing short-form, vertical video for TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts.
  • Experience transforming long-form video, podcasts, interviews, or recorded conversations into engaging short-form content.
  • Strong understanding of social-first editing, including hooks, pacing, captions, framing, storytelling, and vertical formatting.
  • Ability to quickly recognize content that is timely, compelling, newsworthy, entertaining, or shareable.
  • Strong editorial instincts and an understanding of what performs well on social media.
  • Ability to pitch creative content ideas, not simply execute assigned edits.
  • Experience managing social content from concept through publishing.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote freelance environment.
  • Comfort working in a fast-changing environment where breaking news can shift priorities.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills when working with hosts and producers.
  • Flexibility to work an East Coast-based schedule regardless of location.
  • News-driven, culturally aware, adaptable, and comfortable working to tight deadlines.

Compensation and Schedule

  • Location: Remote.
  • Pay: $50–$65 per hour, W-2 hourly.
  • Duration: Ongoing freelance engagement.
  • Hours: Approximately 24–30 hours per week across two to three days.
  • Typical schedule: Monday and Wednesday or Thursday, with occasional Friday work.
  • Recording days may require up to eight hours.
  • Additional hours may occasionally be required for breaking news, emergency podcasts, promotional projects, or additional social content.
  • Candidates must be available during East Coast recording hours.
