Job Description
The UX Engineer – Level II will collaborate with business stakeholders, designers, developers, and technical teams to understand business objectives and deliver user-centered digital solutions supporting New York State strategic initiatives.
The role involves designing, developing, and implementing client-facing and internal applications across web, iOS, and Android platforms. Responsibilities include conducting user research and usability testing, creating UX deliverables, translating designs into functional experiences, and supporting application enhancements and issue resolution.
- Collaborate with stakeholders and delivery teams to solve complex business problems.
- Design and implement digital applications aligned with enterprise architecture and New York State requirements.
- Conduct user research using surveys, interviews, and focus groups.
- Present research findings and recommendations to stakeholders.
- Facilitate design-thinking workshops, journey mapping, and user-needs modeling.
- Create UX deliverables such as user models, scenarios, sketches, user stories, user flows, prototypes, wireframes, storyboards, and sitemaps.
- Conduct usability testing, analyze feedback, and improve user experiences.
- Work with developers to implement designs, create content, and develop coded prototypes.
- Collect and analyze quantitative and qualitative UX metrics.
- Address application defects and enhancements and participate in post-implementation incident resolution.
- Design responsive experiences for web, iOS, and Android devices.
Requirements
Mandatory Qualifications
- More than 7 years of UX experience working on complex projects, including at least 2 years in a UX Engineer leadership role.
- At least 7 years of full-lifecycle UI/UX engineering experience, including the creation of wireframes, mockups, journey maps, prototypes, storyboards, and user surveys.
- 1–2 years of experience working on an Integrated Eligibility System (IES) program, including workstreams such as Fair Hearings, within a Health and Human Services environment.
Desirable Qualifications
- 7 or more years of experience using Adobe Creative Suite or Figma.
- 2–5 years of experience in user research, user modeling, and usability testing.
- 2–5 years of experience with CSS3, HTML5, and JavaScript.
Additional Work Requirements
- Remote work requires direct manager approval and may change based on program needs.
- Consultants approved for fully remote work must attend monthly in-person meetings at the Albany office.
- Attendance at major milestone meetings may be required as needed.
