Job Description
TelevisaUnivision is seeking a temporary, part-time News Photographer and Editor in San Jose, California. The role involves capturing video and audio for live and recorded television productions, editing news content to match scripts, and supporting field and studio operations using non-linear editing systems and mobile equipment.
Responsibilities include:
- Film and edit breaking news, assigned stories, special assignments, and series using ENG cameras and non-linear editing equipment.
- Capture photos and short-form video for social media platforms.
- Set up and operate LiveU equipment for remote live broadcasts.
- Assist with editing, preparing, uploading, and playing back video for newscasts and digital platforms.
- Operate and maintain news vehicles and broadcast equipment safely and professionally.
- Perform routine equipment maintenance and basic troubleshooting.
- Travel for special assignments and news coverage as required.
- Collaborate with reporters, producers, assignment editors, video editors, photographers, engineering, and production teams.
- Interact professionally with the public and local, state, and federal officials.
- Work under pressure, meet strict deadlines, multitask, communicate effectively, and make independent decisions.
- Complete other duties assigned by the supervisor.
Requirements
- Previous experience as a news photographer in a television news or similar environment is preferred.
- Personal computer experience and proficiency with non-linear editing are required.
- Knowledge of lighting techniques is a plus.
- High school diploma required.
- College degree or technical training in journalism, radio/television, production/ENG, or a related field is preferred.
- Fluency in English and Spanish is required.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to lift and carry broadcast equipment weighing approximately 50 pounds.
- Ability to drive, bend, and set up equipment for remote transmissions.
- Manual dexterity for operating cameras, keyboards, videotape machines, and other broadcast equipment.
- Clear speech, adequate vision and hearing, and the ability to sit for extended periods.
- Ability to work outdoors and in inclement weather.
- Availability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and during severe weather.
- Strong storytelling, problem-solving, organizational, interpersonal, and attention-to-detail skills.
- Ability to follow directions while working independently.
