Job Description
The client is seeking a curious, proactive, and detail-oriented Technical Writer to join the Information Security team on a contract basis. The role will focus on auditing and overhauling the existing Enterprise ServiceNow Knowledge Base to create accurate, accessible, and user-friendly documentation for both technical and non-technical employees.
The Technical Writer will rewrite outdated procedures, runbooks, how-to guides, and knowledge articles; establish content standards; and ensure documentation is easy to find, understand, and maintain.
- Audit the ServiceNow Knowledge Base, identify content gaps and quality issues, and create a prioritized remediation roadmap.
- Develop standards for voice, tone, structure, taxonomy, metadata tagging, and article lifecycle management.
- Write and publish procedures, end-user guides, runbooks, and knowledge articles in plain language.
- Research tools and processes by engaging with employees and teams who have relevant subject-matter expertise.
- Partner with subject-matter experts to validate technical accuracy and resolve documentation gaps.
- Create and maintain content templates, style guidelines, and ServiceNow tagging conventions.
- Manage a documentation queue independently and escalate blockers promptly.
- Incorporate feedback and update documentation as systems, processes, and workflows change.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of experience leading documentation or knowledge management initiatives, or equivalent experience.
- Proven ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear, concise documentation for non-technical audiences.
- Experience writing for both technical and business users.
- Experience with knowledge base platforms; ServiceNow experience is particularly relevant.
- Working knowledge of information technology and technical writing practices.
- Strong judgment and editing skills, including the ability to simplify jargon and challenge unnecessarily complex content.
- Experience developing or improving content standards, templates, and style guides.
- Proficiency with Microsoft 365, including Word, Excel, SharePoint, and Teams.
- Experience using AI writing tools, including prompt engineering, appropriate use cases, and verification of AI-generated content for factual accuracy.
- Experience with IT or information security procedures, access controls, incident response documentation, or similar content in a regulated or operations-focused environment is preferred.
- Knowledge of information architecture, content strategy, or UX writing is preferred.
- Experience in mortgage banking, financial services, or another regulated industry is preferred.
