Job Description

CGI is seeking a skilled SQL Developer to design, manage, optimise and scale database solutions using PostgreSQL and MySQL. The role includes developing database code, building ETL/ELT pipelines and supporting integration between relational databases and NoSQL platforms such as MongoDB.

The successful candidate will collaborate with software engineering and data teams to maintain high performance, data integrity, security and cross-platform data availability.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Designing and maintaining relational schemas, tables, views and constraints.
  • Developing complex queries, triggers, CTEs, stored procedures and database routines.
  • Building, monitoring and maintaining ETL/ELT pipelines for analytical databases and data warehouses.
  • Optimising queries, execution plans and indexing strategies, including PostgreSQL B-tree, GIN and Hash indexes.
  • Diagnosing deadlocks, bottlenecks and other database performance issues.
  • Supporting workflows that integrate relational data with MongoDB and other document-oriented data stores.
  • Managing data security, user roles and permissions, backup processes and disaster recovery readiness.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Strong hands-on production experience with PostgreSQL and MySQL.
  • Experience building ETL data pipelines using tools such as Apache Airflow, Talend or AWS Glue, or through custom scripting.
  • Conceptual and practical knowledge of NoSQL databases, particularly MongoDB, including basic querying and JSON/BSON document structures.
  • Proficiency with database tools such as pgAdmin and MySQL Workbench.
  • Experience using Git and other version control systems.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to diagnose performance issues and optimise slow queries.

Location and Working Arrangements

This position is based in CGI’s Fairfax, Virginia or Lafayette, Louisiana office. A hybrid working arrangement is acceptable.

Compensation and Benefits

The estimated U.S. compensation range for this role is $89,600–$198,400, depending on factors such as skills, experience, training, certifications and other relevant qualifications.
