Job Description
Halogen Engineering Group is seeking a Signals Software Engineer with at least seven years of experience to develop, maintain, and enhance signal-processing software, including detectors, demodulators, and protocol processors. The engineer may work independently or as part of a development team and will contribute to software design, implementation, testing, integration, documentation, and problem resolution.
The role involves analyzing user and system requirements, developing software and signal-processing algorithms, modifying existing applications, debugging defects, and integrating software into new or modified systems and operating environments. The engineer will use scientific analysis and mathematical models to design systems that meet functional, performance, timing, resource, and interface requirements.
Key responsibilities include:
- Design, develop, modify, and maintain signal-processing software using languages such as C++ and Java; recommend other languages when appropriate.
- Develop and implement complex algorithms for signal conversion, detection, demodulation, filtering, adaptive processing, and other signal-processing functions.
- Apply knowledge of digital modulation, communications theory, Fourier transforms, error-control coding, and signal analysis.
- Analyze software, systems flow, data usage, work processes, and problem areas across RF collection and processing systems, including hardware, software, and databases.
- Review, test, and perform quality control on software components and document test results.
- Develop and maintain software frameworks that enable efficient data processing.
- Resolve software problem reports, correct defects, and improve software performance and documentation.
- Confer with system and software engineers to define requirements, interfaces, limitations, capabilities, and performance objectives.
- Provide input on hardware/software trade-offs, software reuse, COTS/GOTS solutions, and the decomposition of system requirements into software components.
- Design signal-processing software using sparse or limited documentation when required.
- Recommend and implement improvements to software development processes, documentation standards, technologies, and methodologies.
- Select software development processes in coordination with customers and systems engineering teams.
- Lead one or more software development teams, delegate programming and testing responsibilities, monitor performance, and ensure delivery within project constraints.
- Serve as the technical lead for multiple software development teams when required.
Requirements
Required Skills
- Experience with software-defined radio architectures, such as SCA, REDHAWK, or GNU Radio.
- Knowledge of commercial wireless standards and geolocation techniques.
- Experience with software configuration management tools, such as Git, ClearQuest, Trac, or Subversion.
- Experience with Python, Eclipse IDE, Google Protocol Buffers, and service-oriented architecture.
- Experience with model-based design tools, such as MATLAB and Simulink.
- Advanced understanding of the Linux operating system.
- Ability to identify issues across RF collection and processing systems, including hardware, software, and databases.
- Ability to design and implement algorithms subject to strict timing, system-resource, and interface constraints.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related discipline from an accredited college or university.
- At least seven years of experience as a Signals Software Engineer or equivalent, with a focus on radio frequency systems.
- Experience with Fourier transforms, filtering, communications theory, digital modulation, error-control coding, signal analysis tools such as WYT or DVT, and digital signal processing, including adaptive beamforming, adaptive filtering, and demodulation.
- Four additional years of Signals Software Engineer or equivalent experience on projects using similar software processes may substitute for the bachelor’s degree.
- Current TS/SCI security clearance and a polygraph are required.
