Hey there! I'm Rae Bandy, an artist residing in Louisville, KY, where I spend my days immersed in the world of illustration, painting, and drawing. By day, I'm an Illustrator Technician at the American Printing House for the Blind where I draw tactile graphic illustrations for the blind and visually impaired. By night, you can catch me in my home studio, painting or drawing. My artistic journey is fueled by an ever-evolving fascination with the beauty of everyday life, and I find endless inspiration in the seemingly mundane moments that we often overlook. I like to think of my work as an invitation to pause and appreciate the ordinary. Through a blend of photorealism and hyperrealism, I aim to capture the intricate details of life and the quiet charm of everyday scenes. But there's also a whimsical side to my art — I love infusing a touch of surrealism, inviting viewers to step into a dreamlike world where the familiar meets the fantastical. Symbolism and juxtaposition are my playgrounds, where I enjoy creating pieces that are both evocative and thought-provoking. My hope is to evoke a sense of wonder and curiosity, encouraging you to look beyond the surface and find beauty in unexpected places. So, whether it's a bowl of fruit on a kitchen counter or a fantastical creature, my art is all about celebrating the rich tapestry of life, and creating worlds and characters you can only wish to see in real life. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Art Studio from the University of Kentucky (2017), and have spent most of my (almost) 30 years of life creating art, in one form or another. Some notable work I've created include custom sticker and merch art for bands, pet portraits, book illustrations, tattoos, and more. I studied photography in college, as well, and quickly learned the art of photo editing and retouching. My hard skills include painting, photography, drawing, digital illustration, photo retouching and manipulation, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, CorelDraw, Lightroom, and most digital drawing or painting programs. I thoroughly enjoy the challenge of bringing to life whatever you can dream up. No project is too big or too small!
