Hi, I’m Sebastian D’Souza, a soon-to-be music graduate from the University of Aberdeen, finishing with a 2:1 in Bachelor of Music. During my time there I developed skills as a composer, journalist and performer. With a wide-reaching interest in the sonic arts, I’m eager to pursue any avenue to facilitate growth within music, regardless of genre. I studied composition, dissertation in Music, Electronic Music, Music for Film and New Media, and Western Art Music since 2000. My work as a writer and performer has also been shaped by writing for The Gaudie, and I recently launched my own website to continue posting about music. One long-term goal is to understand how music makes us feel different emotions without language, which naturally led me to analysis and composition. My pieces draw on contemporary rock, jazz and video game soundtracks, and range from minimalist to virtuosic. These works have been performed by Spectrum, Aberdeen University’s new music ensemble. In live settings I mainly play percussive acoustic guitar accompanying singers, and I have also performed on other parts with Spectrum and in improvisational jams. I’m comfortable with gear and software, including MuseScore, Reaper and Audacity, and I regularly use WordPress and Google Workspace to manage projects. I value patience, open-mindedness and ongoing learning, and I love hiking and travel as well as exploring new creative ideas.
