Circuit Connection Checker Automation Tool - AutoCAD

This project is an automation tool built to validate electrical light fitting connections inside AutoCAD drawings by comparing them against a predefined circuit layout specified in an Excel sheet.
The tool helps electrical engineers and CAD designers quickly identify connection mismatches or missing connections in complex lighting circuits. It reads expected connection data (like fitting IDs, circuit numbers, wiring paths) from Excel, and then cross-verifies them with the actual entities and wiring in the AutoCAD drawing.
If any discrepancies are found—like a fitting not connected, connected to the wrong circuit, or entirely missing—the tool visually highlights the problematic elements directly in the AutoCAD interface using a custom GUI. This dramatically reduces the time spent manually checking circuits and improves overall design accuracy.
🔍 Key Features:
📥 Excel Integration:
Reads expected light fitting connections, circuit IDs, and wiring data from Excel.
Supports structured input formats for flexibility.
🧠 AutoCAD Drawing Analysis:
Scans the AutoCAD drawing for light fitting entities and wiring connections.
Matches actual drawing data with Excel data.
⚠️ Error Detection:
Identifies fittings not connected to any circuit.
Flags mismatched circuit IDs or incorrect wiring paths.
Detects missing or extra connections.
🖥️ User-Friendly GUI:
Displays mismatched or unconnected entities clearly in AutoCAD.
Option to zoom/highlight issues directly in the drawing for quick review.
Provides summary reports or lists of errors for documentation or correction.
👨💻 Technologies Used:
VB.NET for core logic and GUI implementation
AutoCAD .NET API for interacting with drawing entities
Excel Interop / EPPlus for reading and parsing Excel data
Optional: Windows Forms or WPF for GUI components
🎯 Benefits:
Automates tedious manual circuit verification
Reduces human error in electrical connection designs
Enhances productivity in electrical CAD workflows
Ensures compliance with design standards and project specs
