AutoCAD To Inventor CAD Conversion Automation Tool

This project automates the conversion of CAD data from AutoCAD to Autodesk Inventor using VB.NET along with the AutoCAD and Inventor APIs.
The core idea behind this tool is to reduce manual rework, save time, and eliminate repetitive tasks by programmatically extracting geometric and metadata from 2D AutoCAD drawings (like dimensions, polylines, layers, blocks, etc.) and then using that data to automatically create corresponding 3D models or components in Inventor.
Instead of manually redrawing or rebuilding parts in Inventor from scratch based on AutoCAD files, this tool acts as a bridge between the two platforms—helping design teams streamline the transition from 2D drafting to 3D modeling.
🔍 Key Features:
📤 AutoCAD Data Extraction:
Reads geometric entities like lines, circles, arcs, polylines, and text.
Captures layers, block references, and custom attributes.
Extracts design metadata (dimensions, notes, materials if annotated).
⚙️ Inventor Model Generation:
Uses extracted data to create Inventor parts or assemblies.
Automatically generates sketches, features, and dimensions in Inventor.
Handles parametric modeling based on rules or data inputs.
🔄 Automation & Workflow Integration:
Runs as a standalone or integrated tool for batch conversions.
Reduces manual design duplication between platforms.
Configurable and scalable for different drawing standards.
👨💻 Technologies Used:
VB.NET for application logic and user interface (if any)
AutoCAD .NET API (via Autodesk.AutoCAD.Interop & Autodesk.AutoCAD.ApplicationServices)
Inventor API (via Autodesk Inventor Interop Libraries)
🎯 Benefits:
Speeds up the transition from 2D to 3D
Improves design accuracy and consistency
Greatly reduces manual input errors
Saves engineering hours on repetitive CAD tasks
