What is Smile.al program?
For the first time in Albania, an online platform has been created which enables the gathering of resources from the “crowd” – from anyone interested, wherever they may be in the world. The resources are then directed to specific projects undertaken by implementing bodies. The core philosophy of crowdfunding is to enhance awareness among the public and to motivate people to contribute, as much as they can, to the implementation of projects that are needed by Albanian society.

The various smile.al actions are being implemented by bodies with a solid track record in such activity, through the program’s website https://www.twine.net/signin, by leveraging the potential of the crowdfunding financing model.

Although compared to the post war years we notice an increasing global economic growth there is unfortunately a very high percentage of people who are deprived of necessary food and supplies to have a normal living. This situation has deteriorated from the recent health and economic crisis that has affected the whole humanity.

According to the latest economic and social conditions especially those that we have to face in our country and in implementation of the concept and the principles of the “National Mechanism”/ Law n. 4445/2016), the South Aegean Region has created the Social Inclusion Observatory (Observatory) with the intention to monitor and control poverty and social exclusion.

Aegean Startups is the digital accelerator of innovation and entrepreneurship of the University of the Aegean. Through their digital platform, competitions and complementary actions, Aegean Startups highlight and support ideas for start-ups but also for actions with a social impact, with an emphasis on the Aegean area. Aegean Startups are attended by students, graduates and staff of the University of the Aegean and other universities, mentors, business angels, companies and organizations of the Aegean and citizens of Greece and the world, in order to promote local development and quality of life in the islands of the Aegean area with original ideas, common resources and coordinated cooperation. For the first time, the social impact of the proposed actions and ideas is analyzed, in accordance with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
