Hi, I'm Genevieve Klick, an artist and educator based in Detroit. I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio Art from Ithaca College and a teaching certificate from the College for Creative Studies for K-12 Art. My experience spans roles as a teaching artist at the Detroit Institute of Arts, art teacher for K-8 students in Detroit and Dearborn Public Schools, and residency artist with ProjectArt Detroit. In my own artistic practice, I focus on dense botanical colored pencil drawings, gouache paintings, and encaustic collages which I frequently exhibit in galleries throughout Metro Detroit. I’m passionate about integrating creativity with education, engaging youth and communities through art workshops in libraries and schools. I currently work as a studio assistant, environmental educator, and lead instructor for various art camps and programs. Volunteering with organizations such as MOCA Detroit and Brushes With Cancer also enriches my commitment to art as a tool for personal and community growth. I am available for fine arts commissions, teaching workshops and live painting events

A collection of student portraits juxtaposed with botanical colored pencil renderings. It was created in the midst of teaching art classes at various Detroit libraries and result of the desire to prolong or capture the experience of often extreme joy and creativity in such an unassuming space. All of the portraits are “action shots” in the midst of creation, utilizing photos from throughout the year. Inspiration photos were taken at a moment of creation, or while showing off finished artwork: times of excitement and pride. Each portrait can be a stand alone piece of art; or, due to the pieces’ irregular edges, collaged together like a large puzzle, creating a singular work of art. Thus, the act of artistic creation is not only a life-bringing source, but so as well is the connection and community we have built with our time together.
