Green Bay Life Church has recently undergone a re-envisioning of its identity. The previous visual concept drew inspiration from the pōhutukawa flower filament, symbolising individuals within the church coming together as one body in Christ.
New Vision:
The church now wishes to express its evolved vision—“A place to call home, where Jesus Christ is Lord.” This shift moves the focus from a purely symbolic floral motif to a more holistic representation of community, belonging, and Christ-centered living.
Objective:
Update and refresh the church’s overall visual identity to reflect its new vision. The design should communicate warmth, unity, and a welcoming spirit, while remaining true to its Christian foundation.
CREATIVE SOLUTION
I approached the refresh of Green Bay Life Church’s (GBLC) visual identity by first focusing on the organisation’s core idea: “Growing in life together, in a place we call home, where Jesus Christ is Lord.” This central concept guided the development of the new logo and the overall branding.
The new logo combines several key elements. The Pohutukawa flower was redesigned to be more modern and subtle. It is integrated with a simple door shape, symbolizing open hearts, both to Jesus and to the community GBLC is called to serve. A house shape was also incorporated to represent GBLC as a spiritual home where people are welcomed and treated like family. Finally, a cross is formed in the negative space, representing the church’s core belief in the Apostle’s Creed.
The warm-toned color palette was chosen to create a sense of welcome and hominess. The pattern was designed from the Pohutukawa leaves, which support the overall theme.
This project is currently in progress, and the complete branding assets will be updated once they have been designed and approved.
