I'm Deborah Zemke, a children's book author and illustrator who has written and/or illustrated more than fifty books for young readers. My chapter-book series starring Bea Garcia has drawn wide acclaim and state library citations, including recognition from the New York Public Library as a Book of the Year. Readers will find inspiration to write, draw, explore and imagine. I love sharing the magic—and the hard work—of drawing and writing in engaging presentations to schools and libraries. I'm the co-founder and mentor of the Grant School Book Project, through which I have helped more than a thousand fourth graders write and illustrate hardcover, handbound books. I also design fonts (ITC Zemke Hand), contribute Critter Crackups to Ranger Rick magazine, and continue creating from my studio near Columbia, Missouri, after growing up near Detroit, Michigan.
