Seán O’Boyle AM
In 2015 Seán O’Boyle, was awarded the highest Australian Chivalrous Decoration, the Order of Australia, for services to music.
His compositions have been performed and/or recorded by major Australian orchestras and arts organisations including - Sydney Symphony, Melbourne Symphony, Tasmanian Symphony, Adelaide Symphony, West Australian Symphony, Canberra Symphony, Queensland Symphony, Barrier Reef Orchestra, Queensland Pops Orchestra, Australian Pops Orchestra, Willoughby Symphony, Opera Queensland, and the Queensland Ballet.
International Orchestras include – Berlin Philharmonic (Ger), Orchestre Symphonique Divertimento (France) Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (UK), BBC Concert Orchestra (UK), Brandenburgisches Staatsorchester Frankfurt (Ger), Belgrade Philharmonic (Serbia), Kaliningrad Symphony (Russia), Malaysian Philharmonic, Auckland Philharmonia (NZ), Wellington Orchestra (NZ). North American Orchestras include – the Atlanta Symphony, Dallas Symphony, Fort Worth Symphony, Concord Chamber Orchestra, Tacoma Symphony Orchestra, Spartanburg Philharmonic, Minnesota Orchestra, Edmonton Symphony, Moravian College Orchestra, and the Cincinnati Pops.
He has written for, conducted, and collaborated with many artists including Dame Evelyn Glennie, Adam Lopez, James Morrison AM, The Whitlams, Tommy Emmanuel AM, Kate Ceberano AM, Yvonne Kenny AO, Teddy Tahu-Rhodes, Suzanne Kompass, David Hobson, Riley Lee, Jane Rutter, David Campbell, Gregory Moore, Don Spencer OAM, William Barton, Megan Washington, Tim Freeman, Jessie Ware, Tom Odell, and Delta Goodrem.
Seán wrote the ABC’s Broadcast theme for the 2000 Sydney Olympics, 2002 Manchester Commonwealth Games, and 2004 Athens Olympics. His music was used exclusively for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, for the opening of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM). The English National Cricket Team take the field for each International Test Match to Sean’s version of the anthem ‘Jerusalem’.
Seán has a keen interest in the music of indigenous Australians and in 2001 collaborated.
with didgeridoo maestro, William Barton, in composing the ‘Concerto for Didgeridoo and Orchestra’. This concerto was ranked #32 in the ABC Classic FM “The Classic 100 Concertos”.
