I started storytelling in 1999 in response to sudden & severe, but not total, sight loss in 1998. Since then I have become an award-winning storyteller who just happens to be the UK’s only professional blind storyteller. In 2004, I trained at Central School of Speech and Drama as a Voice Teacher. A teller, I love taking the audience on a journey, challenging their perceptions, making them think, laugh, weep.
A teacher, I love taking students/clients to a better version of themselves. I have a passion for enabling the creativity and expressiveness of others and pursue this goal through workshops with young people and adults either in Storytelling and Voice, separately or combined. I also work with professionals who speak but who are not professional speakers. Post Pandemic The focus of my work has shifted from live performance to teaching because of changes in the live storytelling economy and I have also been writing StoryMaker - the craft of creating and sharing stories with children, scheduled for publication by History Press in May 2025. It will teach readers how to use Story Structures to instantly create new and effective narrative for and with their listeners. I will be touring to promote it in 2025. I also created an Audio Guide project for The Museum Of Story in Oxford, researching and recording a crowd-sourced descriptive guide to engage blind and partially sighted visitors.
