I began my career in Hollywood in television commercial production, starting in the camera department and learning from seasoned masters such as Caleb Deschanel and John Hora. I later co-founded the Kirby/Kiersch Film Group in Los Angeles with partner Terry Kirby, directing and producing advertising and corporate projects, and building a network that connected international producers and up‑and‑coming directors. Transitioning into feature film and academia, I directed the original Stephen King film Children of the Corn, and followed with Tuff Turf, which featured Robert Downey Jr. and James Spader early in their careers. I later became a Professor and Chairman of a university moving image arts department and continued to advise and lead programs at two additional universities while maintaining an active production slate, including projects like First & Female, Unsolved, Surveillance, and The Hunt. I’ve written and directed multiple docu-fiction and documentary projects and created long‑arc TV series bibles HoneyTrap, Proven, and Plus One, while staying engaged as a producer and creative producer on recent film work.
