Hi, I’m Chloe Liuyan, a Chinese composer based in New Jersey and New York. I create music that lives between concert halls, interactive electronic experiments, and independent storytelling for film, animation, games, and theater. For me, composing is about capturing feelings too subtle or strange to be easily expressed. I want my work to be a musical exchange, where shared experiences and unspoken emotions are held in a safe space. I work with sound as a creative medium, exploring the limitless soul within it, whether it comes from nature, everyday objects, synthesizers, or anything else I hear. I’ve collaborated widely with artists from diverse creative backgrounds. I love to collaborate because every partner invites me into their way of seeing the world, which enriches my own understanding and fills me with new ideas for musical expression. I earned my Master of Music in Composition from Indiana University (2023), following my Bachelor of Music in Composition from Wheaton College (2021). My work has received international recognition, including the special prize at the 4th Ise-Shima International Composition Competition, a Global Music Award, and third place in both the 2024 American Prize (Vocal Chamber Division) and the International Electronic Music Competition. My music has been presented at festivals such as Avaloch Farm Music Institute, Norfolk Chamber Music Festival, Salastina Sounds Promising, SPLICE Festival, Reaching the Limits by Culture Tones, Moxsonic, and the New York City Electroacoustic Music Festival.
