Hi, I’m Elena Maier, a German-Russian composer and pianist. I was born in Russia and began playing piano at age six, training at the prestigious Gymnasium of Art. My family moved to Germany when I was fifteen, where I completed a piano degree at The Music Academy Wiesbaden and found my passion for writing music for film. I was honored to be the first female composer accepted to The Film Academy Baden-Württemberg in four years, which opened doors to collaborations with renowned orchestras and a global festival circuit, including Cannes with my short High Girls. To explore sound across cultures, I spent six months in Central America writing music, and later scored for theatre and Arabic drama projects while studying Arabic culture and instruments such as sitar and doudouk. I moved to Berlin to continue scoring for film and television, and I am now based in Jacksonville, Florida, where I work with local musicians and direct my second film, The Gift. In addition to composition, I teach as a Professor of Music & Media at the University of North Florida and serve as Music Director for The Color Purple at Players by the Sea Theater.
