Dr. Yugang Liu received his PhD in Robotics from University of Toronto in March 2019. Since May 2020, Dr. Liu has been an assistant professor at Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Royal Military College of Canada. To date, Dr. Liu has helped more than 20 cadets with their 4th year capstone project. From March 2017 to April 2020, Dr. Liu had been the team lead of Autonomous Navigation Division at Engineering Service Inc., Markham, ON, Canada, leading the development of autonomous navigation modules for indoor service robots and outdoor patrolling robots. From January 2009 to December 2011, Dr. Liu had been the project manager, system designer and the sole software developer for Ryerson Kapvik Robotics Mast project. Dr. Liu have more than 20-year hands-on experience in robotics design and control, focusing on robotic search and rescue, autonomous navigation of drones and UAVs, autonomous navigation and exploration of mobile robots, machine-learning techniques with application to robotics control, as well as modular and reconfigurable collaborative robots. Dr. Liu is proficient with C/C++ programming, and he is an expert in ROS (robot operating system). He also has extensive hands-on experience in serial communication, CAN bus communication and Ethernet communication as well as development of embedded systems using Arduino and Raspberry Pi.
