I grew up in Italy, in a small town with a big name, Caravaggio (just like the painter). As a child, I played in the gardens of our Baroque cathedral, surrounded by artworks and historical buildings. I have a visceral approach to history: past and present co-exist in my life and work, often linked through popular culture, and I love exploring the human dimension of artists and historical events. I combine education with entertainment, using both my academic and performance skills, and I experiment with techniques to connect audiences with knowledge. An example is the lecture-performance I created in 2017 for the Victoria and Albert Museum on the history of female singers in opera. I coordinate the fashion programming for the Italian Cultural Institute in London and in 2023 I was honoured to receive the Talented Young Italian Award at the Italian Embassy in London. I identify as queer and I am an active member of the LGBTQIA+ community. I work within and beyond academia to stimulate critical reflections on gender, culture and fashion.
