In my journalistic roles, including readunwritten.com and Trill Magazine, I have gained valuable experience researching social issues, such as the suppression of “queercoding” in film, and rising Islamophobia with the Iran War, and writing about them in ways that are accessible to, and tailored towards, Gen Z audiences. I also have direct experience with nonprofit communications. With Wisconsin Progress — an organization that recruits and trains progressive candidates — I designed a year-long diversity day and holiday social media calendar, created a blog where I interviewed changemakers across the state, including a Wisconsin Assembly member and the Deputy Director for Wisconsin Conservation Voters, and designed infographics for key Senate and Assembly districts. With EARTHDAY.ORG, I wrote articles pulling from recent events, such as how climate change likely intensified Hurricane Melissa, or more obscure angles, such as the limited, but fascinating, documentation of climate change-themed nightmares. In my latest nonprofit role at InReach, which connects LGBTQ+ people facing discrimination with resources, I created social media posts for long-term campaigns such as #TransMascFutures– which gathers the stories of radical transmasculine joy– and wrote stories on our Substack based on user feedback to illustrate the positive impacts of our service.
