I’m a Film and Television Music Composer and Sound Designer who specializes in creating unique sounds and compositions using old analog equipment such as tape and analog synthesizers in a digital workspace to bring music and production techniques from the past and bringing them into modern creations and compositions.
I currently a student at the University of Portsmouth on the Music Technology BSC Hons and just finished my second year of that course. I focus primarily on the composition side of the course and am well known for producing unusual compositions using old analog synthesizers or using analog tape such as cassette tape loops. I am a hard worker that always produces a unique outcome and always tries to focus in on the core elements of what it is I may be working on.
For example, one of my most recent modules was “Music Technology in Performance” where I composed a piece based on the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant Incident. To do this, I used as much equipment from the time period as possible to lean into the retro feel of the project. I used samples of news reports and the evacuation message from pripyat that were recorded to homemade tape loops so that I could fully link in my composition to the theme of Chernobyl.
I think what sets me apart from other composers is my ablitiy to use old equipment in a modern workspace well and be able to create compositions that are sympathetic to what’s happening on screen by creating weird and wonderful sounds with that technology. Whilst many film and television soundtracks sound the same these days, I always want to strive to have my compositions stand out, and by using broken instruments, lo-fi quality recordings and sampling and analog synthesis, I will be able to achieve that goal.
